Adapt your garden to climatic conditions by thinking of ecological or technical solutions to anticipate the droughts to come.

Has your garden suffered from drought in the past?

Take the lead in the spring by planting hardy, old and local varieties.

In areas where summers tend to be dry, forget about water-hungry plants!

A way to make life easier and do something for the environment.

Adopt other cultivation methods

Bring forward the time of your sowing so that your plants can take advantage of the softness and humidity of spring to grow. Practice it mulching, but above all spread it on damp earth. Organize your plantings to shelter smaller, more fragile plants from shade-giving elders. If your vegetable garden is very sunny, consider planting a country hedge in the fall to protect it from the sun, all your plants will benefit from its beneficial shade.

Teach the roots to draw water from the soil by optimizing your watering. For example, water abundantly when you plant tomatoes by making a channel 20 cm from the foot. Repeat a month later 20 cm later. This method forces the roots to develop to seek water further or deeper.

Consider more technical watering solutions

Install a system of microporous pipes: the water will be absorbed by the soil and the plant will not be attacked by superficial watering. In case of persistent drought, water the entire planting area abundantly, to prevent the roots from gathering at the level of the dripper. Use oscillating sprinklers or foggers long enough that the soil is moist to a depth of 10 cm. To avoid fungal diseases, always prefer watering early in the morning, and especially avoid wetting the leaves.

Collect rainwater and use a watering can for bedding plants or planters with high water requirements.
